Qi Hui graduated from the Bachelor of Biomedical Science with First Class Honours at the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science in 2018. As of 2019, she continues on with the Molecular Proteomics laboratory as a PhD student under the Joint Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute – La Trobe Postgraduate Research Scholarship (LTURPS). In doing so, she maintains ongoing collaboration with the Hudson Institute of Medical Research in utilising human trophectodermal stem cells to gain critical insights into human embryo implantation — a significant problem accounting for over a third of unsuccessful pregnancies.
With a keen interest in biological and engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs), quantitative proteomics, mass spectrometry, and bioinformatics, she continues to investigate the role of EVs in embryo implantation using a multifaceted approach; in particular, (a) dissecting the composition, function, and reprogramming capabilities of human embryo-derived EVs, and (b) engineering EV mimetics to significantly improve embryo implantation. For this project, she applies an assortment of biochemistry/molecular biology techniques, including three-dimensional stem cell culture, cell-based functional assays, experimental mouse model, EV purification and characterisation, and high-resolution and high-accuracy mass spectrometry.
